week 28 update
Neale & Marples Set Unusual New Record
The Chesterfield & District Snooker League has seen its fair share of records—impressive high breaks, most wins, and even the longest-ever frame, which dragged on for a staggering 1 hour and 56 minutes. But when it comes to the lowest-scoring frame, our resident statistician, Ian Rose, has been digging through the archives without success. While the highest-scoring frame was recorded in the 2019/20 season when Simon Wall (Lennons ‘A’) triumphed 105-90 over Grassmoor legend Edwin Smith, no official record existed for the lowest.
That is, until now.
During this week’s league match between Alfreton ‘G’ and Lennons ‘C,’ a remarkable new record was set. The opening frame between David Neale and Rich Marples saw a total of just 48 points scored, ending 19-29 in Marples' favour. This now stands as the lowest-scoring completed frame in league history—unless someone can prove otherwise!
It might not be the most coveted record, but gentlemen, wear the honour with pride. You’ve earned your place in the history books… for now!
Premier Division update
Welcome’s Title Hopes Strengthen with Big Win
The Welcome’s push to reclaim the Premier title gained momentum this week with an impressive 4-1 victory over league leaders Lennons ‘H’. The highlight of the night came from Andy Diacopolous, who produced a brilliant 62 break in his frame against David Birley, the highest break of the week.
With a game in hand, the Welcome Institute now has a prime opportunity to close the gap on their two closest rivals in next week’s crucial match against Hasland Club ‘A’.
Meanwhile, Hasland ‘A’ edged closer to the safety zone, sitting just two points above the cut-off after a tight 3-2 win over Clowne Liberal ‘A’—their fourth victory over them this season.
The race for the title is heating up!

Division One Update
New Whittington ‘B’ Bounce Back in Style
New Whittington ‘B’ saw a dramatic turnaround this week, recovering from last week’s 5-0 loss to Newbold with a dominant 5-0 victory over Lennons ‘A’. This emphatic win keeps their title hopes alive as the season heads into its final stretch.
However, league leaders Newbold CA ‘A’ remain in control, maintaining their five-point cushion at the top after an impressive 4-1 win over Brotherhood ‘B’. Meanwhile, Brotherhood ‘B’ continue their battle to avoid the play-offs, with the relegation fight shaping up to be a two-way contest between them and Alfreton ‘G’.
The pressure is mounting as the season nears its climax!

Division Two update
The Hasland Club derby saw the ‘C’ team secure their fourth win of the season against the ‘D’ team. Standout performances came from Dave Gastrell and Adam Moss, both delivering impressive 30+ breaks.
Lennons ‘F’ endured their fifth consecutive defeat, this time falling 3-2 to Hasland ‘B’. The victory moves Hasland ‘B’ just one point in front of Hasland ‘D’, who remain in a precarious play-off position.
With five straight wins and a strong run of form, I thought Brotherhood ‘C’ might finally end Alfreton ‘B’s unbeaten streak this week. But I was wrong. After last week’s loss, young Rocco Amalou bounced back in style, defeating Brotherhood’s Lee Hage for the third time this season to give Alfreton a 1-0 lead. Rich Amalou extended the advantage to 2-0 before John Roseman pulled one back for the hosts. However, Scott Twells sealed the win by edging out veteran Dunc Waring, keeping Alfreton’s streak intact. A late consolation frame from Mark Hodgkinson wrapped up the match.
With four games left, can any of the three Hasland teams or Grassmoor spoil Alfreton’s party?

Division Three update
The top four teams shuffled positions this week. Alfreton ‘F’ climbed back to the top of the table for the fourth time this season, edging out Lennons SC ‘I’ by a single point.
With a game in hand, Clowne is poised to challenge for the top spot. With the competition still wide open, all six leading teams remain in contention for the title.

Despite this week’s defeat to Brotherhood ‘E’, Brotherhood ‘F’ remain just weeks away from securing the title. However, the battle for the crucial play-off spot is heating up, with Newbold CA ‘C’, Lennons ‘G’, and Brotherhood ‘E’ all in contention.
Meanwhile, Lennons SC ‘J’ claimed an important victory over their closest rivals, Brotherhood ‘G’. Wins from Richard Prince, Dan Hickman, and Dan Barnes sealed their third triumph over Brotherhood and marked their fifth win of the season.

Competition Results
It was a professional and composed performance from two-time Premier winner Guy Dennis in his quarter-final clash against the in-form Steve Donner. Unfortunately for Donner, the Alfreton player couldn’t replicate the brilliant form he displayed just days earlier at the English County Championships, where he delivered a stunning high break of 110.
With this win, Dennis—who last claimed this title back in 1990—advances to the semi-finals. Well done!
Grassmoor ‘A’s Deano Hancock is through to the semi-finals of the Handicap Competition after an impressive victory over Alfreton’s Rich Amalou. Following his win, Deano took to social media to express his excitement at reaching the semis in one of the league’s biggest competitions.
Well done, Deano—one step closer to glory!
