Week 21 report
Premier Division
It was a week of highs and lows for league leaders Alfreton SC. Sitting comfortably at the top of the table and with two matches scheduled, they had a prime opportunity to widen their lead. Things started well, with a commanding 4-1 victory over Clowne Liberal early in the week. However, their momentum faltered during a trip to Hasland Club a few days later. Hosts Andy Bingham, Jason Rimington, Daryl Turner, and captain Gav Cann stormed to a 4-0 lead, leaving Alfreton scrambling. Ben Monk managed to rescue a point late on, but the draw keeps the title race alive and far from settled.
Meanwhile, over at Clay Cross, the match between Lennons ‘H’ and Brotherhood ‘A’ was a much tighter contest, with Lennons ‘H’ narrowly claiming the win. Both Jonathan Hall and David Birley secured victories in their frames, maintaining their positions as the top two players in the rankings.
Division One
The top two teams both stumbled this week, each suffering a 3-2 loss, leaving the points gap at the top unchanged. Lennons ‘A’ player Ricky Bartram delivered a standout performance, achieving the highest break of the week with an impressive 44 against Newbold’s Gary Scott in the decisive fifth frame. The third frame between Dave Gray and Rob Morley also provided plenty of excitement, with the Lennons player clinching victory after a tense black-ball re-spot.
Meanwhile, Alfreton ‘D’ continued their excellent form with a statement win over the league leaders. With a game in hand, they now have a real chance to push for a playoff spot.
Division Two
It was a challenging week for Hasland Club, as all three of their Division 2 teams suffered defeats. Brotherhood ‘C’ claimed a 3-2 victory over Hasland ‘B’, a result that temporarily moves them to the top of the division. Their lead, however, is under threat from unbeaten Alfreton ‘B’, who had a bye this week. Also maintaining an unbeaten record is John Roseman, whose impressive winning streak shows no signs of slowing down.
Breaking their 10-match losing streak, Grassmoor ‘A’ secured a vital 3-2 win over Hasland ‘C’. These much-needed points provide a lifeline in their fight to avoid relegation.
Meanwhile, Lennons ‘F’ solidified their mid-table position with a commanding 4-1 triumph over Hasland ‘D’.
Division Three
Division 3 delivered some dominant performances this week, but the standout result was undoubtedly the clash between New Whittington ‘A’ and league leaders Lennons ‘I’. Sitting near the bottom of the table, New Whitt might have expected a tough challenge on Tuesday evening. However, they shocked everyone with an extraordinary 5-0 victory over the young Lennons side. Despite a 37 break from Lennons, Jansen Clarke, it wasn’t enough to secure a point . This result moves them within just six points of second place, highlighting just how competitive and tightly contested this division is. With such a close race, every team can justifiably feel they have a shot at promotion.
Division Four
With Brotherhood ‘F’ maintaining their 10-point lead at the top, the spotlight shifts to the battle among the chasing teams. The race for second place is heating up, with Lennons ‘G’, Brotherhood ‘E’, and Newbold CA ‘C’ all vying for promotion. Only a few points separate these contenders, and while Newbold ‘C’ suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat this week, their game in hand ensures this fight remains wide open.
Brotherhood ‘E’ made a strong statement with a commanding 4-1 victory over their club rivals, the ‘G’ team. Despite Rob Ward giving Brotherhood ‘G’ an early boost, dominant performances from captain Simon Arnold, Stuart Rodgers, Dave Allen, and Andrew Shepherd sealed the win for Brotherhood ‘E’.

Competition Results
As we approach the deadline for the current round of competitions and with the next round set to be drawn next week, the latest matches have showcased some exceptional performances.
One of the standout players of the week was Glen Shawcroft, who took on back-to-back matches on Thursday. Despite losing his Premier match against six-time champion Martin Finnigan, Shawcroft displayed remarkable grit and determination, fighting back from 2-0 down to force a decider. Breaks of 33 and 38 from Finnigan ultimately secured his place in the next round, keeping his hopes of a seventh title alive.
Undeterred by the earlier loss, Shawcroft immediately shifted focus to his second match of the evening, this time against clubmate Shane Miles in the handicap competition. Riding the momentum, Shawcroft delivered a stunning performance, producing a brilliant break of 93. He came agonizingly close to a total clearance of 144, narrowly missing the 13th red, which would have surpassed the current record of 143 set by Ash Walker just weeks ago. Refusing to dwell on the near miss, Shawcroft went on to claim a dominant 3-0 victory, capped off with a break of 42 in the final frame. His consistent break-building this season solidifies his status as one of the standout players so far.
Another player who shone this week was David Birley of Lennons ‘H’. Birley was instrumental in his three-man team's impressive 4-1 victory over Division One’s Newbold CA ‘A’. His two magnificent breaks of 79 and 64 propelled them into the semi-finals, set for next month.
Additional noteworthy performances came from Gav Shirley (61) and Jonathan Hall (58), who both delivered excellent breaks in the same competition, adding to an exciting week of top-tier snooker action.
