Sponsor, James Arthur from Romley Caravan Storage presenting Martin with the Romley Trophy

This trophy is one of the ones I haven’t won and the one I wanted, though I came here today not expecting to win it, so I’m really pleased that I have.
— Martin

Plate Winner, Lee Hage receives his prize from sponsor Glen Shawcroft of Alfreton SC.

I’ve played in the Chesterfield Snooker League for 37 years and have never won any individual competitions. I felt great all day and really wanted to win so I’m really pleased to finally get some silverware

Romley Caravan Classic 2025: A Celebration of Snooker Excellence

As another fantastic edition of the Romley Caravan Classic concludes at the incredible Ding Junhui Academy in Sheffield, it’s the perfect time to reflect on what was a memorable tournament. This annual event continues to bring together players from all divisions, showcasing the skill, camaraderie, and passion that define our snooker community.

The Romley Caravan Classic, originally envisioned by long-standing league member James Arthur as a one-day competition inclusive enough to engage players from all divisions, has now reached its fifth year. Its enduring popularity among our members speaks volumes about its success and the spirit it fosters within the league.

This year’s event featured 64 players across five divisions, playing a total of 93 matches, spanning 299 frames, and producing an impressive 50 breaks over 30. Notably, the high breaks of 75 by Guy Dennis in the main draw and 53 by Ben Monk in the plate competition exemplified the high standard of play.

A Day to Remember

The day began with excitement and anticipation as players arrived to compete on the same tables they’ve watched professionals play on television. For many, the experience of playing at such a venue made the tournament extra special. The random draw format of the competition led to some exciting early matchups between top players, creating opportunities for lower-divisional players to shine. And for those who exited in the first round, the plate competition offered another chance to compete and enjoy the day.

It was heart warming to see junior players participating and excelling. 13-year-old Kai Hopkins made it all the way to the semi-finals of the main competition, while 16-year-old Jack Shawcroft reached the final of the plate competition. Jack narrowly missed out on victory, losing to Lee Hage, who put in a stellar performance throughout the day. Lee’s triumph was particularly special, as it marked his first individual league title, an achievement that was celebrated with joy and pride. Congratulations, Lee!

Stars of the Day

In the main draw, Guy Dennis made a triumphant return to the Chesterfield Snooker League after a 30-year hiatus. Guy showcased his enduring talent, recording the tournament’s top two breaks (71 and 75) and defeating several top-tier opponents on his way to the final. However, he faced stiff competition from Martin Finnigan, whose resilience and expertise carried him through some tough matches. Martin ultimately emerged victorious, claiming his first title in the Classic. Congratulations, Martin, on a well-deserved win!

Both winners will now face off in the SightRight money match bonus and secure their places in the Champion of Champions event at the end of the season.

Gratitude and Looking Ahead

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this tournament possible—our sponsors Romley Caravan Storage, Alfreton SC, and SightRight Global Network, as well as the volunteers and participants who contributed to its success.
