Week 14 report
Gill notches up half a century!
This week, I learned that Steve Gill, from Hasland Club 'D,' has been competing in the league for an incredible 50 years. Steve began his snooker journey as a teenager at the Angel Club before moving to Chesterfield MW. Over the years, he alternated between there and Hasland, eventually spending a significant period at Birdholme WMC. Following its closure, Steve returned to Hasland, where he continues to play today. Congratulations, Steve, on your remarkable dedication to league snooker, and here's to many more years ahead!
We’d love to hear from our other long-serving members too—please share your stories with us!

Alfreton 'A' Bounce Back with Impressive 3-2 Victory Over Welcome 'A'
After suffering their first league defeat of the season last week, Alfreton 'A' delivered a strong response with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Premier contenders Welcome 'A'.
The match began with Jack Morton producing his finest performance of the season, defeating Nottingham standout Wayne Martin in the opening frame. Steve Donner followed up in commanding style, notching a decisive win over Joe Reynolds with an impressive 66 break, giving Alfreton an early 2-0 lead.
Guy Dennis showcased his experience in the third frame, staging a comeback with some crucial safety play to edge out Ben Monk and pull Welcome 'A' within striking distance. However, Glen Shawcroft rose to the occasion, delivering one of his best performances of the season. Shawcroft overcame an in-form Jim Harrison—who impressed with an 81 break in the Harry Anderson competition just before this league match—securing the victory for Alfreton.
In the final frame, Welcome captain Adam Clift dominated play against Alfreton’s consistent Ian Rose, salvaging a point to limit the damage for his side.
This result solidifies Alfreton 'A’s position as strong contenders in the league, while Welcome 'A' will look to regroup and push forward.
Meanwhile, at Clowne Liberal, Lennons 'H' faced a weakened 'A' side, bolstered by several players from their 'B' team to complete the fixture. Hopes briefly rose for Clowne when Karl Brownlow claimed the opening frame against David Birley. However, Tramontano, riding high after his recent six-reds success, turned the tide for Lennons. His performance set the tone for a 4-1 victory, bringing Lennons level on points with the league leaders.
Hasland ‘A’ and Brotherhood ‘A’ faced off in a tightly contested match this week. The visitors took an early 2-0 lead with wins from Martin Burrell and Rob Mullis. However, Hasland fought back as Jason Rimington, with a 31 break, and Gav Cann, delivering a tidy 57 break, levelled the score, forcing a deciding frame. In the final showdown, Jonathan Hall, continuing his excellent form, sealed the victory for Brotherhood with a 35 break. Hall's decisive performance also propelled him to second place in the player rankings with Rimington just behind in third place.
Division One Review
Brotherhood ‘B’ secured their fourth win of the season with an impressive 4-1 triumph over Lennons ‘A’. Barry Scraton, Graham Jones, Martin Conway, and stand-in player John Roseman all contributed points for the Clay Cross team. The standout moment of the evening was a brilliant 54 break from Martin Conway. Lennons ‘A’ managed a consolation point thanks to Ricky Bartram, who delivered a solid 34 break.
Meanwhile, New Whittington ‘B’ maintained their dominance in Division 1 with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over bottom-placed Lennons ‘C’. Over in Alfreton, the local derby between Alfreton ‘G’ and ‘D’ saw the ‘D’ team edge a narrow 3-2 win, with captain Adam White clinching the decisive frame to secure victory for his side.
Division Two Action
With just one week remaining before the Christmas break, the big question is whether Alfreton ‘B’ can preserve their unbeaten record heading into the second half of the season. They successfully defended their streak in a closely contested match, edging past Hasland Club ‘D’ with a 3-2 victory.
Meanwhile, the other two Hasland teams fared better than their clubmates, both securing hard-fought 3-2 wins in their respective matches.
Division Three Update
Alfreton ‘F’ continues to dominate with unwavering confidence, extending their incredible winning streak this week with a commanding 5-0 victory away at Newbold CA ‘B’. This result keeps them narrowly ahead of Brotherhood ‘D’ at the top of the table. Brotherhood ‘D’ also secured a win, edging out New Whittington ‘A’ 3-2 to stay in the title race. Callum Greenfields win this week see him go top of the players standings.
Clowne ‘B’ ended a three-match losing streak in style, claiming an impressive 4-1 victory on the road against Doe Lea ‘A’. However, their momentum faltered in a rescheduled match against Lennons ‘I,’ where they fell short in a narrow 3-2 defeat.
As the season approaches its midway point, the competition at the top remains intense, with just three points separating the leading three teams.
Division Four Report
Brotherhood ‘F’ continues to dominate Division Four, solidifying their top spot with 42 points despite having a bye this week. Their lead extends to 10 points over second-placed Newbold CA ‘C’, who narrowly edged out Lennons SC ‘J’ in a 3-2 win.
Third-placed Lennons SC ‘G’ had a mixed week. They earned a hard-fought 3-2 win over Brotherhood ‘G’, keeping them level on 32 points with Newbold, but missed an opportunity to pull ahead.
Brotherhood ‘E’ climbed to fourth with a commanding 4-1 away victory over Newbold WMC ‘B’. Key performances from Andrew Shepherd and Simon Arnold, both in top form, helped secure the win.
At the other end of the table, Newbold WMC ‘B’ remains rooted at the bottom with 12 points, struggling to find momentum as the season progresses.
Michael Elliott of Brotherhood ‘F’ leads the player standings with an incredible record of 10 wins from 11 matches. His teammate Keith Chaplin isn’t far behind, boasting nine wins. Andrew Shepherd and Simon Arnold of Brotherhood ‘E’ are neck-and-neck in third and fourth, showcasing their consistency this season.
As the division heads into its next round of fixtures, all eyes will be on the chase for the second spot and whether anyone can challenge Brotherhood ‘F’s commanding lead.

Father and son duo Dave and Riley Neale extended their remarkable run in the pairs competition, booking their place in the quarterfinals after a gritty victory against Premier players Gavin Cann and Jason Rimington. Despite Rimington’s impressive 67 break, the determined Alfreton duo proved too strong. Up next, the Neales face a challenging showdown against their clubmates and three-time champions, Glen Shawcroft and Kennedy Wright.
In the Harry Anderson Memorial competition, Welcome’s Jim Harrison showcased resilience to edge out Newbold’s Kieron Wood in a thrilling second-round clash. Harrison delivered breaks of 30 and a spectacular 81—the highest of the week—to gain momentum. He then held his nerve in a decisive final frame to secure a spot in round three.
Elsewhere, Lewis Longden earned his place in the main draw of the Romley Caravan Classic with an emphatic performance against Premier player Steve Goodwin. The young Lennons star produced breaks of 31 and 38 to seal a commanding 3-0 victory.
