Chesterfield League Embraces 6 Reds Format with Exciting One-Day Event
With the popularity of the 6 Reds snooker format on the rise, the Chesterfield & District Snooker League decided to join the trend by organising its first-ever 6 Reds one-day competition. Hosted by YM Brotherhood, the event welcomed 32 players across all 5 divisions, although interest exceeded the capacity, sparking discussions about expanding entries for next season’s tournament.
The 6 Reds format, a departure from the traditional 15 reds game, offers unique features such as a “ball in hand” option after a foul and the elimination of the “foul and miss” rule. These changes, along with the faster-paced matches, have proven appealing to both players and spectators.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing eagerness to return next year. A notable highlight of the event was the opportunity for players to compete against others they wouldn’t typically encounter in their respective leagues.
A Competitive Field and Memorable Final
The two finalists, Daniel Tramontano and Duncan Waring, entered the tournament in strong form, though neither had anticipated making it to the final given the unfamiliar format. Both displayed impressive consistency, dropping only one frame each on their journey to the championship match.
Tramontano delivered a standout performance in the quarter finals with a break of 41 against Matt Large of YM Brotherhood—an impressive feat given the limited number of red balls on the table. Waring, not to be outdone, crafted a composed 36 break in his semi-final victory over Dan Barnes from Lennons SC.
The final proved to be a nail-biter. Tramontano took an early lead in the first frame with a swift 31 break, but Waring responded by clearing the colours to claim a 1-0 advantage. Daniel quickly levelled the score, and the next two frames were evenly shared, setting up a deserved decider. Ultimately, Tramontano held his nerve to secure the title.
Looking Ahead
Tramontano’s victory not only earned him the inaugural 6 Reds crown but also a coveted spot in the end-of-season Champion of Champions competition. With the event’s success and the enthusiastic reception from players, the 6 Reds format looks set to become a fixture in the Chesterfield & District Snooker League calendar.
Special thanks to Duncan Waring for hosting the event at YM Brotherhood and also to Adam Moss for taking charge of proceedings on the day.
We are looking forward to next seasons event….
