Week 8 Update

David Birley, Lennons SC ‘H’

The Team KO competition started this week, pausing the regular league schedule.

In Group One, defending champions and current Premier League leaders Alfreton SC ‘A’ began their title defence on a high note with a comfortable win over Brotherhood ‘A’.

The biggest upset of the round came from Lennons SC ‘H’ as they squared off against Division 2 side Brotherhood ‘C’. Ranked 12 places below their opponents, the Clay Cross team delivered a surprising performance, with strong wins from Duncan Waring, Lee Hage, and John Roseman, giving them a commanding lead heading into the final frame. Despite captain Kev Breeze’s efforts, Lennons couldn’t close the gap, allowing Brotherhood to continue their solid season.

A nail-biter ensued between Division 1 teams Lennons SC ‘C’ and New Whitt ‘B’. Mark Lee clinched victory for his new team against former teammate Adrian Marples in the last frame, winning on a black-ball shootout.

In Group Two, Brotherhood ‘F’ maintained their impressive form with a hard-fought win over the in-form Lennons SC ‘I’. Michael Elliott secured the victory for Brotherhood with a decisive final-frame win over Lennons’ captain, Nathaniel Lawton.

The Lennons derby between their ‘G’ and ‘J’ teams was a one-sided contest. Niall Hardwick and Darren Hemingway set the tone with scores of 99 and 113 points in the first two frames, making it an uphill battle for Barbara Shillaker’s team.

Congratulations to all teams advancing to the quarterfinals, scheduled for the week beginning December 16.

In the competitions this week, Jim Harrison from the Welcome Institute followed up last week's top break with another impressive performance, delivering a superb 88 break in the pairs event. Harrison’s form with his new cue is proving increasingly powerful.

Meanwhile, Lennons ‘H’ player David Birley returned to defend his Premier title against Alfreton’s Alan Crownshaw, showcasing his break-building skills. His commanding 3-0 victory included breaks of 60, 53, 43, and 30. Birley is also aiming to reach his 10th consecutive Premier final this season—a remarkable achievement if he can do it.

In the Harry Anderson Memorial competition, rising talent Jack Johnson from Lennons ‘I’ demonstrated his progress with a confident 3-0 win over Premier Division player Gav Cann.

Lastly, please review the competition deadlines listed below to ensure all matches are completed on time. Any issues, please get in touch. Thank you!
