Week 4 update.
Walker breaks 29 year old record.
The standout moment in snooker this week was Ash Walker's phenomenal 143 total clearance for the Welcome team. This remarkable break occurred in the second frame of their 3-2 victory against Brotherhood ‘A’, leaving his opponent, Rob Mullis, in awe of the achievement.
Ash's 143 break marks his 11th in the Chesterfield & District League, equalling Nigel Bond's record. It also becomes the highest break ever recorded in the league, surpassing the long-standing 142 set by the late Lee Spick, which had held the top spot for an impressive 29 years.
Lennons player Lewis Longden also had an outstanding week, culminating in a victory at the inaugural Champion of Champions competition on Sunday. Lewis navigated through a tough field of competitors to claim the title, impressing everyone in attendance, including his final opponent, seasoned veteran Jonathan Hall. In the final frame, Lewis dominated with a 91-0 whitewash, leaving Hall as little more than a spectator.
Riding the wave of his success, Lewis carried his momentum into his league match, where he astonishingly repeated the 91-0 score line, this time with a 41 break. It’s been an incredible few days for the young Lennons star!
This week saw more of our junior players making their league debuts, with 12-year-old Riley Neale from Alfreton 'F' and 10-year-old Oliver Boden, the newest member of Lennons 'J', both competing in their first league matches.
While it's unclear, Oliver could potentially be the youngest player to ever compete in the league. If anyone has information to confirm or correct this, please feel free to reach out.
12 year old Rocco Amalou backed up his 1st round victory in the Harry Anderson competition with a debut win in his Division 2 match against Adam Moss.
In Division 1, Newbold CA 'A' moved into the top spot with a home victory over Lennons 'C'. Wins came courtesy of Rob Morley, Gareth Priestley, and Steve Goodwin, with Goodwin also climbing to the top of the player rankings after maintaining a perfect start to the season.
In Division 3, Alfreton 'F' secured an impressive 4-1 away win against Brotherhood 'D', with Paul Sainsbury, Steve Bullock, Nathan Brown, and captain Jamie Luckman all contributing points. Meanwhile, Doe Lea hosted a much tighter contest against New Whittington 'A', which went down to a black ball decider. In-form Robert Wragsdale faced off against Phil Kay, with Kay eventually sinking the black for his first win of the season.
In Division 4, Brotherhood 'F' suffered a surprising 4-1 defeat at home to Newbold CA 'C'. After a perfect 15/15 start to the season, Brotherhood were handed their first loss, as Newbold continued to build momentum and now sit second in the table. Michael Elliott, who tops the player standings in Division 4, secured the sole consolation frame for the Clay Cross side.
This week also featured the draws for the John Smith Memorial Trophy, Geoff Hardy Memorial Trophy, Pairs, 6 Reds, and the Romley Caravan preliminary round. Be sure to check the league website for all matchups and dead-lines.
