Week 30 update

Premier Division update

After a dominant 5-0 victory over Brotherhood, the Welcome Institute has taken control of the title race, with a game in hand giving them a crucial advantage. They now look like the team to beat. Ash Walker sealed the win with a solid 54 break—the highest of the week.

Meanwhile, over at Hasland, Lennons ‘H’ suffered a setback in their title bid, narrowly losing 3-2. They now cling to a slender one-point lead over Welcome but have played an extra game. With only a few matches left, can Welcome capitalise on their advantage, or will Lennons and Alfreton stage a late comeback?

Division One Update

Newbold tightened their grip on the top spot, extending their lead by three more points after a dominant 5-0 victory over Lennons C. A commanding display, highlighted by a solid 44 break from captain Kieron Wood, leaves them on the brink of securing the title.

Meanwhile, New Whittington, who had dropped just one frame in their last two matches, suffered a setback on the road, falling 3-2 to Alfreton ‘G’. This result intensifies the relegation battle between Alfreton ‘G’ and Brotherhood ‘B’, setting up a tense fight for survival.

Elsewhere, Lennons ‘A’ edged closer to third place with a narrow 3-2 win over Alfreton ‘D’, who currently occupy that spot. With only a few matches remaining, the race for the top positions—and the fight to avoid the drop—remains wide open.

In the player standings, the top eight positions stay the same this week, despite defeats for John Roseman, Nick Oakley, and Daryl Turner.

Competition Results

Congratulations to The Welcome’s Guy Dennis, who has secured his place in a second final this season! After finishing as runner-up in the Romley, he will now compete in the John Smith Memorial Trophy final following a hard-fought semi-final win over Martin Conway. Well done, Guy!

2016 Premier winner James Harrison had a close call in the quarter-finals, as Alfreton’s Adam Cupit came within just a few pots of causing a major upset. However, Harrison held his nerve to scrape through and book a spot in the semi-finals.

Lennons’ Lewis Longden advanced in the Geoff Hardy Memorial Trophy with a convincing 3-0 victory over veteran Duncan Waring. A composed 35 break helped the young Lennons player secure yet another semi-final appearance.

Finally, in the Scotch Doubles, Alfreton’s Gareth Clarke and Terry Dowson staged an impressive comeback from 2-0 down to defeat The Welcome’s Dave Bolton and Adam Clift.
