Week 12 Report

Simon Wall, Lennons SC ‘A’

Premier Division Report

With league leaders Alfreton ‘A’ on a bye, Lennons ‘H’ and the Welcome Institute had the chance to close the gap. The Welcome team hoped for a strong showing against Brotherhood ‘A’, and Tony Morgan set the tone by comfortably winning the opening frame against Jordi Stevenson. However, Brotherhood responded decisively, taking the next three frames with standout breaks of 39 from Jonathan Hall and the week’s best, a 51 from Darren Mosley, securing the victory. Tony Morgan returned to win his second frame of the night, earning both points for the Welcome.

Meanwhile, in Hasland, the newly promoted Hasland ‘A’ hosted title challengers Lennons ‘H’. David Birley gave the visitors an early advantage with a commanding win over Gav Cann, including a 41 break that also propelled Birley to the top of the player standings. Hasland fought back with wins from Andy Bingham and Jason Rimington, but Lennons’ captain Kev Breeze leveled the match with a composed 45 break. The deciding frame saw Dave Pagett clinch victory for Lennons, moving them into second place in the standings.

Division One Review

Lennons ‘A’ bounced back from last week’s 5-0 loss with a decisive 4-1 win over Alfreton ‘D,’ climbing three spots to third place. Captain Simon Wall opened strongly, followed by an impressive performance from Ricky Bartram, who defeated Matt Edwards by 88 points. Darren Coop and Jason Renshaw added two more wins, while Gareth Clarke secured a consolation point for Alfreton.

Leaders New Whittington ‘B’ faced Alfreton ‘G’ in a closer contest than expected. The visitors raced to a 2-0 lead with wins from Dan Lock and Jamie Bosworth, who added a 37 break. Alfreton captain Adam West responded with a 31 break, pulling one back for the home side. Ming Lou then extended New Whittington’s lead, but the final frame was a nail-biter between Alex Radford and Mark Lee, ranked 3rd and 4th in the player standings. Geoff Hardy Champion Alex Radford narrowly won, giving Alfreton two hard-fought points.

Newbold CA ‘A’ continued their strong form, defeating Lennons ‘C’ 4-1 to stay in contention with league leaders New Whittington.

Brotherhood ‘B’ player, Andrew Frisby showcased his consistent scoring prowess again this week with a 46 break in the Pairs competition and a 42 in the Harry Anderson Memorial.

Division Two Action

Brotherhood ‘C’ continued their dominant form with a second consecutive 5-0 whitewash, this time over Lennons ‘F.’ Duncan Waring sealed the win with a respectable 41 break, while teammate John Roseman maintained his perfect record of 10 wins from 10 matches.

Mark Hodgkinson also impressed this week, coming off a 3-1 victory over George Wright in the Geoff Hardy Memorial competition. His performance included breaks of 39 and 46, advancing him to round two.

Hasland Club ‘D’ secured their second win of the season, defeating Grassmoor WMC 3-2 in an away match. This result reversed the scoreline from their September encounter and keeps Hasland above Grassmoor in the standings.

Division Three Update

The race for the Division Three title tightened as Alfreton ‘F’ closed the gap to just one point behind leaders Lennons ‘I’ with a 3-2 home win over Brotherhood ‘D.’ Jamie Luckman’s team remains firmly in the hunt for top honors this season.

Doe Lea MW ‘A’ showed signs of resurgence with their second consecutive win following five straight defeats. Momentum could place them back in contention if they can maintain this form.

Division Four Report

Newbold CA ‘C’ continued to assert their dominance over Brotherhood ‘F,’ defeating them 3-2 for the second time this season. With a game in hand, Newbold CA ‘C’ remains determined to prevent Brotherhood from running away with the title.

Michael Elliott suffered his first defeat of the season, narrowly losing 59-70 to Tony Bonsall, but he still retains the top spot in the player standings.

Brotherhood ‘G’ earned a crucial four points with an away win against Newbold WMC, while Lennons ‘J’ showed slight improvement, earning an extra point in their rematch with Brotherhood ‘E.’
