Week 6 Report

Riley Neale with playing partner & father, David Neale. Alfreton SC 'G' during their 3-1 win in their Pairs match.

Premier Division Round-Up:

Alfreton ‘A’ continue to set the pace in the early stages of the season with a hard-fought 3-2 victory on the road against Welcome Institute. Kyle Ryde and Steve Donner gave the visitors a 2-1 lead with breaks of 44 and 48, respectively. Welcome’s Joe Reynolds then delivered a strong performance to defeat the in-form Ian Rose and level the match. In the deciding frame, Jim Harrison appeared on course to secure the win for Welcome, but Ben Monk mounted a spirited comeback, overcoming a 30-point deficit to clinch the match and keep Alfreton ‘A’ on top of the division.

Hasland Club ‘A’ notched their second win of the season with a convincing 4-1 away victory over Brotherhood ‘A’, ensuring they remain well in the title race.

Division One Report:

New Whitt ‘B’ continue to dominate Division One, extending their lead to six points at the top after a comprehensive 5-0 demolition of Lennons SC ‘C’. Martin Lawrence was the standout player, equalling the division’s highest break of 48.

Meanwhile, Alfreton hosted a local derby between their ‘D’ and ‘G’ teams. Matt Edwards, Dylan Wright, and Adam White secured victory for the ‘D’ team, while Alex Radford and Stu Smith picked up consolation frames for the ‘G’ team.

In the tightest match of the week, Lennons ‘A’ hosted Brotherhood ‘B’. Three of the frames went down to the black ball, including the final frame.

Division Two Action:

Alfreton ‘B’ reclaimed the top spot in Division Two with a dominant 5-0 win over struggling Hasland ‘D’. The standout moment came in the opening frame, where 12-year-old Rocco Amalou impressed with a 33-68 victory over veteran Mick Hall.

Despite taking a week off, John Roseman retains his position at the top of the player standings with a flawless 100% record.

Johnnie Bates of Lennons ‘F’ climbed to third in the player rankings after making a 38 break during his team's narrow 3-2 defeat to Hasland ‘C’, maintaining his unbeaten streak.

Division Three Highlights:

Lennons ‘I’ held their three-point lead at the top of Division Three despite having a week off. However, Brotherhood ‘D’ stayed within striking distance after a 4-1 home win against New Whitt ‘A’.

Robert Wragsdale of Doe Lea regained the top spot in the player standings, despite his team’s 3-2 loss to Clowne ‘B’, thanks to a win over Tom Newsome.

Division Four Overview:

Newbold CA ‘C’, led by Geoff McCleavy, closed the gap to just one point behind leaders Brotherhood ‘F’ with a 3-2 win over Lennons ‘J’. McCleavy’s unbeaten run also sees him sit atop the player standings, narrowly ahead of his teammate John Haywood, who remains undefeated this season as well.

Brotherhood ‘E’ is building momentum, moving into third place with an impressive 4-1 victory over Newbold WMC.

Competitions:

The standout match of the week took place in the Harry Anderson Memorial, where Brotherhood’s Andrew Frisby faced off against Alfreton’s Terry Dowson. Andrew came out strong, delivering a remarkable 68 break in the opening frame, forcing Terry to concede without scoring a single point. Frisby maintained his momentum, comfortably taking the second frame, leaving the Alfreton player on the back foot.

However, Terry displayed great resilience, fighting back to claim the next two frames, including a notable 41 break of his own, to force a deciding fifth frame. The final frame was a tense, closely contested battle, ultimately decided by a re-spotted black, which Frisby coolly potted to secure the victory. His 68 break was also the highest across all competitions this week.

In another thrilling match, Ian Rose edged out Matt Large 3-2 in the Handicap competition, with yet another re-spotted black deciding the outcome in Rose’s favor.

Elsewhere, Alfreton's 12-year-old Riley made a dream debut in the pairs competition, partnering with his father David. The duo overcame the experienced Brotherhood pair, Lee Hage and Dunc Waring, with a solid 3-1 victory.
